# Getting started

DueBack lets customers rent your products by the day. They pick dates on the product page, pay a refundable deposit at checkout, and DueBack tracks the rental until it comes back and the deposit is settled. This guide takes you from install to your first test booking.

## 1. Install and open the setup guide

Install DueBack from the Shopify App Store. The first time you open the app, the setup guide (**Welcome to DueBack**) walks you through five steps. You can leave at any time with **Skip setup**: whatever is left stays on **Home** as a checklist, and **Setup guide** on that checklist opens the guide again.

## 2. Tell DueBack what you rent

The first step asks what you rent out. Your answer only fills in defaults for new rental products, and you can change both on each product:

| Choice | Days kept free after each return | Stock |
|---|---|---|
| Clothing and accessories | 2, for cleaning | Counted per size |
| Equipment and gear | 1, for checks | One stock for all variants |
| Something else | 2 | DueBack guesses the option from your product |

## 3. Make your first product rentable

Click **Choose a product** and pick something you rent out. On its setup page:

1. Tick **Rent this product with DueBack**.
2. Under **Copies you own**, enter how many you have. If each size is a separate physical item, set **Split stock by** to that option and enter the copies per size.
3. Under **Rental length**, give each variant a number of days. The variant's Shopify price is the rental price.
4. Optionally set a **Refundable deposit**.
5. Click **Save**.

Every setting is explained in [Rental products](https://dueback.misoapps.com/docs/rental-products).

## 4. Add the date picker to your theme

Click **Open theme editor**. The **Rental date picker** block is ready to add to your product template: move it above the add to cart button if needed, then save the theme. Back in DueBack, the step turns to **Added** once the block is on your live theme. See [Date picker](https://dueback.misoapps.com/docs/date-picker).

## 5. Publish your rental agreement

DueBack fills the text box with a template covering the rental period, deposit, late returns, damage and loss, and cancellations. Edit it to match how you rent, then click **Publish and continue**. Customers tick a box to accept it before a rental goes into the cart. See [Rental agreement](https://dueback.misoapps.com/docs/rental-agreement).

## 6. Place a test order

Book a rental on your store with a test payment, such as Shopify's Bogus Gateway or a 100% discount code. The order shows up under **Bookings** within a minute, and its dates are taken off the calendar.
