# Rental agreement

Your rental agreement sets out the rental period, deposit, late returns, damage and cancellations. Customers tick a box to accept it on the product page before a rental goes into the cart, and each booking keeps the version they accepted.

## Publish your agreement

Open **Settings → Rental agreement**, or the agreement step in the setup guide. The first time, the text box holds a template with five sections: *Rental period*, *Deposit*, *Late returns*, *Damage and loss* and *Cancellations*. Edit it to match how you rent, then click **Publish new version**.

- Leave a blank line between paragraphs.
- The agreement can be up to 20,000 characters.
- Until you publish, customers still tick the box, but there is no agreement to link to.

## Versions

Every publish creates a new version, numbered from 1. Bookings keep the version the customer accepted, so changing your terms never changes what an earlier customer agreed to.

Each version has its own public page on your store at `/apps/dueback/terms/<version>`, showing your shop name, the version and the date it was published. Older versions say they were accepted with an earlier order and link to the current one. These pages aren't indexed by search engines.

## Where customers see it

- **Product page:** the date picker links *rental terms* to your current version. To link to a page of your own instead, set **Agreement page** in the block settings. See [Date picker](https://dueback.misoapps.com/docs/date-picker#block-settings).
- **Checkout:** a rental without accepted terms is refused. See [Checkout protection](https://dueback.misoapps.com/docs/checkout-protection).
- **Order status page:** the **Rental details** block links to the agreement.
- **Return report:** the printable return report includes the text the customer accepted.
