Rental products

Each rental product tells DueBack how many copies you own, how long each variant rents for, how many days to keep free around each rental, and the deposit. Open Products in DueBack and click Add rental product, or pick a product from the list.

How stock and length work

A rental product uses up to two of its Shopify options:

  • One option can split your stock. With Size as the split, each size has its own copies: two size S gowns and one size M gown are booked separately.
  • One option can set the rental length. With Rental period: 4 days / 8 days, each variant covers a fixed number of days and is priced in Shopify like any variant.

A product with neither has one shared stock, and you set the days on each variant.

Rental

Tick Rent this product with DueBack to show the date picker on the product page. Untick it to pause rentals: the picker hides, and bookings you already have are kept.

Copies you own

Set Split stock by to Nothing: one shared stock or to the option whose values are separate physical items, then enter the copies for each value (0 to 10,000). DueBack never books more copies than this on the same day.

If you lower the copies below what is already booked on some day, DueBack warns you with Fewer copies than already booked and lists the bookings that may have no copy to send. Click Save anyway to keep the new number.

Rental length

Choose the Option that sets the length, or None to set days per variant. Each variant gets a number of days from 1 to 365; a variant left empty is Not rented. DueBack fills in the days from option values it understands, such as "4 days", "1 week" (7), "Weekend" (3) or "1 month" (30).

You need at least one variant with a rental length before you can save.

Booking rules

SettingDefaultWhat it does
Buffer before (days)0Keeps a copy free before each rental, e.g. for shipping. Up to 30.
Buffer after (days)From your setup answerKeeps a copy free after each rental for cleaning or checks. Up to 30.
Minimum notice (days)2How soon a rental can start. 0 lets customers start today.
Book up to (days ahead)180How far ahead customers can book, up to 730.

Buffer days are taken along with the rental, so a copy rented 14–16 November with a 2-day buffer after is busy until the 18th.

Refundable deposit

Enter a Deposit per item, or leave it empty for no deposit. The deposit goes into the cart as its own untaxed line next to the rental, and you refund it after the return minus any fees. See Returns and deposits.

DueBack keeps the deposits on one hidden product in your store, titled Refundable deposit, with one variant per rental product. It is unlisted, so it doesn't show in collections or search. Don't delete it or change its variants.

Blocked dates

Take stock out for repairs, cleaning or your own events. Enter From, To, the stock it applies to (when the product has more than one) and an optional Note, then click Block dates. Blocked days show as unavailable on the storefront. One block can cover up to a year. Save the rental settings once before you add blocks.

Shopify inventory tracking

DueBack counts your copies itself. If Shopify also tracks inventory on a rental product, every rental takes a unit and never gives it back, so the product soon shows as sold out. DueBack warns you with Shopify is tracking inventory on this product; click Stop tracking inventory to fix it.

Rental products list

The Rental products list shows each product's status (Rentable, Paused or Deleted in Shopify), its deposit, and its rules, for example 2d notice · 0+2d buffer.
